Movie goers had plenty of new films to pick from this weekend. Yet it seems that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was just too much of a juggernaut for the rest of the pack.
Jumanji made another $35 million this weekend to give the movie a grand total of $291 million domestically and a world wide total of $676 million. The movie could easily finish off its theatrical run around $800 million. The Commuter, Paddington 2, and Proud Mary all made it into the Top 10 films this weekend. Star Wars took a dive from third to fifth place as just about everyone who will watch the movie in the theater has seen it. The year’s first big release Insidious: The Last Key is sitting at $95 million worldwide. Given that the budget for these films is always small, the movie is nothing but another hit for Blumehouse Productions. The movie doesn’t look like it will make as much as the second movie did in its domestic run ($83.5 million). The totals below are from the longer Holiday weekend.
Weekend Top Five( Holiday Weekend)
5. Star Wars: The Last Jedi $15.2 million
4. The Greatest Showman $15.6 million
3. The Commuter $16 million
2. The Post $23 million
1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $35 million
January continues to bring people to the cinema as three more movies will be released this coming weekend. 12 Strong, Den of Thieves, and Forever my Girl all have a chance to become the number one movie next week. I myself have been looking ahead to February when Black Panther is going to be released on February 16th. I’m a sucker for those Marvel movies. Now if you’re wondering about some of the Marvel shows, I covered a few of them here.
