Microsoft have finally revealed that all major holiday released in 2015 during their ‘Greatest Holiday Lineup’ surpassed 1 Million in sales during the 3 month holiday period. This started with Gears of War: Ultimate, which have been one of the best selling digital titles since release on the Xbox One store.
After months of speculation, Microsoft also revealed that Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider surpassed 1 Million in sales as well. This is great news for these exclusives, with speculation rife on the actual sales of these titles pinning them at less than 300k during the holiday period. Microsoft earlier released the sales numbers for Halo 5, calling it the best selling in Halo franchise history with over $400 Million in sales during the first 6 days. That gives us a pretty good ceiling for what the ‘Over 1 Million sold’ means.
2015 was a monumental year for Xbox – the biggest in our history – and we owe it all to our gaming community. We saw record global engagement and sales fueled by high demand for our greatest games line-up and hardware and accessories like the best-selling Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle and our Elite Controller. Every title in our exclusive 2015 holiday games line-up – Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6 and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition – sold over 1 million units, and the number of Xbox One gamers who played Microsoft Studios-published titles more than doubled compared to 2014.
The Xbox One is still outpacing the sales of the Xbox 360 during the same period in their sales cycle according to Microsoft with engagement at an all time high. With 2016 looking better by the minute for Xbox One owners, we’re excited to see how Xbox and the Xbox One continues to outpace expectations in the coming year.
