Marvel’s panel at D23 yesterday gave us lots of information about the upcoming releases of Phase 3. There was a trailer for Captain America: Civil War as you might expect but there was also a cool slideshow of Doctor Strange related material.
We will get into the details of this slideshow in a minute, but before we do lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who is currently on stage in London performing in Hamlet (and was therefore unable to attend) had some things to say about the movie. Brandywine Cucumberbranch mentions what an awesome challenge it will be to play the role and to expect:
“Girls, cars, explosions and a bit of astral projection into multiple dimensions. The usual fare”
So Cuttlefish’s video over the slideshow rolled, and director Scott Derrickson spoke about his vision for the movie. He confirmed that the Doctor’s origin would be explored and would play a central role in the plot.
Images flashed up on screen including Doctor Strange in a variety of outfits all of which are very similar to their comic renditions. Then we get a look of New York, his office and home prior to the accident that mangles his hands and views of exotic locations possibly in China. The images that come next are very space-y and magical with Strange standing above a giant hole falling into another dimension, and shots of him in space with a Guardians of the Galaxy look to the whole thing. Some more of him back on earth with cars floating and streets twisting, the footage ending with a moving CG Doctor Strange creating weird yellow power with his hands.
Doctor Strange comes out on the 4th November next year, and will be the 14th instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For more movie, TV and gaming news stick right here on TiCGN!
