Marvel vs Capcom is easily one of the most popular fighting game franchises ever, fans have loved it ever since the ’90s and it has a cult following of dedicated players. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 still has strong support after all of these years even with the fighting game genre being full of new games. However, things have looked grim for the future of both the Marvel vs Capcom series and Marvel games in general ever since 2011, as Marvel frustratingly focused their gaming efforts on the mobile market.
With the announcement of the new Spider-Man game for PS4, Marvel has announced that they have big plans to return to consoles with “lots of things in the works”. Fans of the legendary fighting game series have their hopes up again and Marvel is adding some fuel to the fire. Marvel Games vice president has spoken with Polygon and had this to say about the potential of a new game in the series: “There’s nothing we can say at this time… Let’s just say we hear (the request) a lot. We love our fans and we certainly want to please them. Beyond that we can’t say anything at this time. But who knows what the future holds?”
That is certainly a very optimistic answer to the question. One would think that if it wasn’t atleast on the table, the VP would’ve said something a bit more conclusive. While this isn’t confirmation that Marvel vs Capcom 4 is happening, it’s definitely the best sign we’ve had since the last game came out. Maybe if we’re lucky we’ll see the next game within a few years. Never give up!
