Bandai Namco and Level-5 have teamed up again to bring us Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. This sequel to the popular RPG will be available on PC and PS4. Not only did they show a trailer at E3, they also filmed an interview with Level-5’s general director Hino.
The “Forge a Kingsbond” trailer mostly shows clips of cutscenes from the game. It teases a story about a boy wanting to become a great king, but it is short on details. We also get a few shots of the game’s real time combat and a brief look at the protagonist leading hordes of soldiers. While it is not as descriptive as the interview, this trailer does give a decent look at the game itself.
During this interview, Hino explains that Evan (the protagonist) must unify the world by defeating enemies in various nations. On his adventure, Evan will meet five kings facing different hardships. By solving these issues, Evan will grow as a leader and unite the lands. This is an entirely new story that anyone can enjoy, but there will be a few hidden references to the first game. Some characters will return, but which ones are being kept secret for now.
We also see more of the action gameplay in this video. The game features improved character switching mechanics as well as Higgledies, little beings who fight en masse. These creatures have the power to help stop bosses and have special attacks. Hino mentioned that the game will feature online multiplayer in various capacities. However, he did not give details on the full scope of these features. He also mentions that the game has quite a few mechanics revolving around kingdom building.
