The little indie charmer Rime has had its struggles over the last few years. The game was originally revealed at Gamescom 2013 as a PS4 exclusive and impressed gamers and the industry alike with its breathtaking art style, mysterious story, and gameplay that seemed to be reminiscent of the popular PlayStation exclusive Ico.
After a long disappearing act it was revealed in 2015 that the publishing deal with Sony had fell through and developer TequilaWorks had re-obtained the rights to Rime. However, that was the last we heard about it until now.
Good news is that Rime is back once again, this time it is being published by Grey Box who is responsible for games such as Dreadnought and Grey Goo. The publisher revealed that Rime will debut on gaming platforms in 2017, indicating that it will be multi-platform and not just on PS4.
My hope is that this time we will actually see a release of Rime as it has gone dark so many times in the past that the hype is dead at this point. Grey Box and TequilaWorks will have to work hard to not only reintroduce Rime in such a way that it captivates gamers once again, but also build trust that it will in fact release as promised this time.
