When I started playing this game I sure thought to myself, sure yet another weird indie game nobody will buy because it’s mechanics is flawed and broken. But then the intro cinematic started and I immediately perked up in my chair. This looks so cool.
The game doesn’t have a story per-say, however you do play the game inside a cartoon world on a so called ‘TV show’. The game takes on a Soap opera mode where you unlock the story as you go. The game starts off with an advertisement for the show with hilarious spoofs of what you do see on real world television. Then you’re transported to the menu system where you can choose which of the 6 characters you’d like to play as.
Each character has its own abilities and quirky banter when in game, and every person playing the game would find one they could easily identify with. As you play the game with each character, you unlock their part of the show, and get hilariously funny snippets that each person playing the game certainly have experienced before.
The game wouldn’t win any awards for story telling, but as far as an indie casual game goes, this is extremely satisfying to play.
When you finally chose your preferred character you’re dropped into the game world where you have to garner points by smashing, shooting and squashing opponents. In the world you can pick up bigger and badder weapons, or use the world itself to destroy your foes.
The game offers both single player experiences, and multiplayer ones. However this is not an online game, and requires players to have up to 4 local friends with Split screen gameplay. I didn’t have anyone to play with, but against the AI which could be notched up to 11, gameplay was challenging and fun as hell. I would have loved a full Online Multiplayer, and the game feels quite empty without that option.
The game also offers several maps where you can bash your mother in, with a Graveyard, Desert, Forest and Space options open to you. There are several gameplay modes to chose from, such as Racing, Deathmatch and Capture the Flag (they have other names but these make more sense to me). Each one offers extremely satisfying gaming fun. I especially loved the Capture the Flag option, with flags running around the map like headless chicken.
If you’re looking for an extremely fun single player or multiplayer game you can kick back and have a laugh with your friends and family, this is it. It’s Rocket League style fun but with way more comedy.
The game launches on Xbox One on the 11th of March and will set you back a mere $8.99.
