So off the back of the wildly successful Capitan America: Civil War, Marvel can now start looking forward to the casting of their upcoming standalone films. Veteran actress Sharon Stone recently revealed to James Corden that she has been given a part somewhere in the Marvel line-up.
“I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.”
The emphasis then is that it’s not a big role and with Doctor Strange nearing completion and filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 well under way possible roles that Stone has been cast in narrow considerably. The most logical choice would be to pair her up with her Basic Instinct co-star, Michael Douglas. Michael Douglas will most likely return for 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp which could see him continue his search for, the original Wasp and Hope’s mother, Janet Van Dyne. In last year’s Ant-Man movie the actual face of Mrs Van Dyne was carefully concealed throughout the film and this led to much speculation that Marvel was planning on casting a more well known actress later down the line.
What this piece of news may also show us, should Sharon Stone really be playing Janet Van Dyne, is that Hope’s mother will be found alive in the Quantum Realm. Of course it could be Stone is being asked to film scenes as a young Janet Van Dyne were she is ‘made younger’ in post-production. Marvel seem keen lately to utilise this process with Michael Douglas and Robert Downey Jr both appearing in recent Marvel films as younger versions of themselves. Hayley Atwell also regularly appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an older Peggy Carter with wrinkles being put on in post.
