Fans of the classic Dreamcast RPG may soon have an updated way to enjoy this time honored experience. Alza, a storefront in Europe, may have accidentally leaked details of an upcoming re-release of Shenmue onto current generation systems. The storefront has shown that they have a listing for a “Shenmue 1&2 Pack” that is available for both Playstation 4 and Xbox One. There are currently no screenshots or details other than the title itself, and the product is, obviously, not available for purchase or preorder.
The entire thing is fishy and could easily be brushed off as an error/trolling effort, as this wouldn’t be the first time this pot was stirred, but Shenmue’s legacy is the worst kept secret in gaming. The 3rd game, who’s Kickstarter campaign was revealed at E3 in 2015, was leaked a couple of weeks prior to the official announcement, though it was dismissed as rumors of Shenmue 3 had persisted for years. Though there is no word from anyone validating or dismissing the leak, it’s quite possible that Sega would want to introduce the games to a new generation and build up further hype for the upcoming third installment. Additionally, the Tokyo Game Show is only ten days away, and an announcement there is entirely plausible. The Shenmue games certainly have a dedicated and almost fanatical fanbase, so there would certainly be a market for these remakes.
We’ll bring more on this as the details come forward, and, hopefully, a confirmation of this listing could be made before the end of the month.
