Sonic the Hedgehog is a game that is close to my heart. I remember being a kid totally infatuated by the speed, graphics, and gameplay of the first game in the series. Before Sonic, Super Mario Bros was my go to action platformer of choice, but the blue fur ball offered something different and took me to places that Mario could never do. This was the game that brought a roller coaster like experience to my living room, raising my adrenaline to the max every time I played. To say the least, these games were a big hit in my household.
That being said, I am honored to share that Sega is celebrating 25 years of Sonic the Hedgehog. They have a new video on the official YouTube channel commemorating this special occasion that you can check out below. The video highlights the blue fur ball’s humble beginnings which started in 1991 on Sega Genesis and takes us all the way to his latest release in 2011 Sonic Generations, which celebrated the 20 year anniversary. At the end of the video, Sega hints at a new Sonic adventure coming our way with these words, “Who knows what surprises lay in store for Sonic’s 25th anniversary? Actually, we do, but we can’t tell you yet.”
Now I know that the most recent Sonic games have not exactly been the greatest thing in the world, but there is something about the little speedy blue devil that makes me keep hope alive. Thank you Sega for providing us with 25 years of Sonic!
