Hinterland Studio’s snowy survival game The Long Dark may soon find its way to the Nintendo Switch. In a recent LinkedIn post Founder and Studio Creative Director at Hinterland Games Raphael van Lierop wrote: We’re investigating the possibility of porting The Long Dark to the Nintendo Switch, and considering working with an external porting partner to accomplish this (so that we can focus on making new stuff!).
Raphael’s post goes on to request Unity engine development as well as experience in porting games over to the Switch. In addition to this port, they are also looking to hire new programmers for another (currently secret) project at the studio! The Long Dark was one of the first Early Access games for the Xbox One to help kick off the Game Preview Program. With the tremendous commercial success of the Switch, as well as it being a current hot bed for indie titles, The Long Dark Nintendo Switch Port may be a no-brainer.
The first two episodes of The Long Dark: Wintermute, launched in August 2017 and are now available on Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows 10. Further episodes and ongoing updates to Survival Mode will be released over 2018. How excited are you about the possibility of The Long Dark Nintendo Switch Port? As a huge fan of open world survival games that stress realism to the fullest, I’m pretty hyped. Hopefully we will get more information and a release date soon.
