This otome visual novel takes place during the Bakumatsu period of Japan. Not long after arriving in Kyoto in search of her father, the protagonist witnesses something she should not have. To protect their secrets, the Shinsengumi take her in for questioning and find that they have the same goal. Upon learning this, the group offers to let her live in exchange for her assistance in finding her father.
As they strive to gain favor with the Shogunate, the Shinsengumi samurai frequently battle ronin and even supernatural beings. When things are peaceful, the protaognist spends time with these men, and love begins to bloom. While the overall story is the same as the original, Kyoto Winds brings several new scenes, characters, and routes.
Idea Factory International intends on releasing the PC version of Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds this summer. For more information on the game, you can read our review of the Vita version.
